We went to another antenatal appointment yesterday to follow up from my admission.
- Cervix is still short but no more short than it was last week. OB says it’s just something for him to be aware of during my care and as long as regular checks show that it’s not effacing or dilating any further, and I don’t get regular contractions/bleeding, there’s nothing to worry too much over. He assured us that he had a woman whose cervix was almost completely shortened and she still carried to 41 weeks, so there’s just no knowing how it will affect the pregnancy. He also pointed out that I’m now 26 weeks, viable already, and if bub is just willing to stay in there for another month or so, his chances of survival and thriving are excellent!
- Baby is now around 2.1lbs, according to the ultrasound scan (I always take these measurements with a grain of salt but it’s still cute to know).
- We saw his boy parts, couldn’t miss ‘em, again. Even the OB was like “We’ve been looking at bub’s bits for a while now, haven’t we?” since he’s been shoving his willy in our faces during every single scan from 16 weeks onwards. There is literally no way we could have been surprised with this one.
- Other Cute Stuff He Did: Made suckling motions with his mouth when jabbed in the face with the ultrasound probe, opened his eyes and looked around, covered his nose with his hand in shame when we started talking about how it looked like he’d inherited Daniel’s Italian nose (heh heh). As an aside, I really love that Daniel’s Italian heritage is visible in his facial features (his mum is Sicilian).
I’m so excited now. I’m both longing to meet him and absolutely loving sharing my body with him.
Um, I also saw a physiotherapist about my back this week. She said my posture was terrible (I sit directly on my coccyx instead of my bum-bones) and that usually I wouldn’t notice it, but because of the hormones produced during pregnancy my ligaments are a lot softer so I’ve caused a bulging and pinched disc. She strapped my back to keep me in good posture, which really helped over the first 12 hours but then I got fed up (or, in my words at the time “SICK TO DEATH OF THIS TAPE I WANT IT OFF NOW”) and ripped it all off the next day. Learning to use correct posture is damn painful especially when you’re strapped with tape. Couldn’t even go to the toilet properly (try pooping sitting straight up like an arrow and you’ll see what I mean). The physiotherapist said she would have liked to have done some tests but they’re not advised during pregnancy so I’ll just have to wait til after the birth to see how much damage I’ve done to my back by being a slouching slob.
